Lacquered and timber veneer furniture care
Natural timber and veneer finishes will show distinctive grains, patterns and colour variations which are evidence of being produced from genuine timber materials. Always use protective heat coverings to protect against hot objects. Always use coasters when placing glasses, bottles, or cups on the surface. Clean stains and liquid spills immediately, they can permanently bond with furniture if allowed to soak in. Our furniture surface can be cleaned with 5% detergent and 95% water mix, and then clean with water, dry it with cloth.

Solid timber and timber veneer furniture

  • Use tablecloths, table runners and coasters to help protect surfaces from scratching.
  • Dust once a week using a soft cloth or similar duster.
  • Only use recommended care products as many supermarket polishes and waxes contain high levels of silicon and petroleum distillate which can damage the surface.
  • Polish your furniture every 3 to 6 months, making sure the surface is free from dust before you start.
  • Avoid placing hot or wet items directly on the surface as they can leave marks which are difficult to remove.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, as this will cause colour change. If the furniture is in direct sunlight, move items like vases around to avoid spotting.
  • Avoid applying too much polish as this will build up and need to be removed with a wood-cleaning product.
  Metal and glass care
  • Dust regularly to avoid dirt build-up. Dust can cause the surface to pit.
  • Repair damaged surfaces immediately to prevent the metal underneath from rusting.
  • Powder coated finishes may be repaired using coloured or clear nail polish.
  • Chrome and stainless steel products can be cleaned with a dedicated metal cleaning product. These are available at most supermarkets.
  • Don’t use harsh abrasives to clean any metal surfaces
  • Don’t leave indoor furniture outside, or you won’t be covered by the warranty. Continual exposure in a damp or wet environment will cause corrosion.

Glass

Many products come with tempered glass. Although this is up to four times stronger than normal glass, it’s not unbreakable and should still be treated with care.

Dust glass frequently with a soft, dry cloth.

  • Clean with a glass cleaner following the instructions on the bottle. Don’t apply glass cleaners to surrounding surfaces or to the frosted side
  • of frosted glass.
  • Use mats and coasters to protect glass from heat.
  • Place any frosted glass, frosted side down. Don’t allow greasy or dirty items to come into contact with the frosted side. It can leave marks
  •  that are difficult to remove. Some minor marks can be removed with a cut, raw potato. Test in an inconspicuous area first.
  • Don’t subject glass to thermal or mechanical stress, it can be weakened and may break or shatter.
  • Avoid using the glass as a chopping surface and don’t allow sharp or hard objects come into contact with it.

High gloss polyurethane finishes

These finishes can be easy to maintain using commonly available household cleaning products.

Wipe spills away with a damp cloth immediately.

  • Remove streak marks using a common glass cleaner and a cloth.
  • Darker colours may show up scratches more. These can be removed using a car polish or similar product suitable for polyurethane finishes. Check the information on the care product to make sure it’s suitable. Don’t apply too much polish as it gets harder to remove the excess.
  • Use table runners, place mats and coasters to reduce the chances of marking and damaging the high gloss finish.
  • Don’t put high-gloss finishes in direct sunlight as this will increase fading.
Ensure you use coasters on the surfaces to protect against scratches, heat or water marks. Water spills should be wiped up with a clean dust free cloth immediately. Loose dust can be easily removed with a soft clean cloth by gently wiping the surface of the furniture. Dust can scratch the surface so work carefully. Do not use a feather duster, as it may scratch the surface and do not use polish that contains silicon or alcohol.
